With up to 16 channels of integrated RF-ADCs and RF-DACs in Xilinx Zynq® UltraScale+™ RFSoC devices, interfacing to mmWave RF up/down conversion requires careful frequency planning to ensure the best wideband performance. This webinar will present frequency planning guidelines and design considerations for mmWave transmit and receive chains. Our use case is applicable to a mmWave superheterodyne radio using Avnet’s mmWave Radio kit with Xilinx’s ZCU208, which features the Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC Gen 3. You will learn a multi-step process to identify a suitable range of I/F frequencies based on target RF frequencies and maximum signal bandwidth. Performance refinements are then applied by considering harmonic products and image terms from both the RF-DACs and RF-ADCs and the RF signal chain.

Presenter Bio:
Luc F. Langlois is director of Products & Emerging Technology at Avnet, a leading technology solutions provider in 25 countries across North America, Europe and Asia. Present activities focus on Xilinx RFSoC-based development platforms for digital signal processing in wireless communication, SatCom, radar and RF instrumentation. He received his BSEE from École Polytechnique de Montréal in 1990 and also holds a B.Mus in music performance from Université de Montréal. He began his career at the Hydro Québec Research Institute, numerical analysis group, designing power system models and load flow study tools back when Fortran-77 was state of the art. He was an independent engineering consultant during the Internet boom, focusing on digital audio before joining Memec-InSight as a Xilinx field applications engineer in 2000.

Cecile Masse is a Sr. RF Systems engineer, based in Orange County, California. She has 20+ years of experience in the wireless and semiconductor industry. Cecile has held a number of roles with a wide range of responsibilities, from full sub-systems radio design, IC products specification, system-level analysis and modeling, customer engagement, project management and training. Working for large corporations, as well as start-up companies, she has defined numerous RF and mixed-signal products. She has also developed successful reference designs for multi-carrier GSM, 3G, 4G LTE and FR2 5GNR, both transmitters and receivers, including clocking and power management. The core of her expertise lies in wideband, high performance radio design. She holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the engineering college E.S.I.E.E, Paris, with majors in RF design and signal processing.

Adam Tayloris a world recognized expert in design and development of embedded systems and FPGA’s for several end applications. Throughout his career, Adam has used FPGA’s to implement a wide variety of solutions from RADAR to safety critical control systems (SIL4) and satellite systems. He also had interesting stops in image processing and cryptography along the way. Adam has held executive positions, leading large developments for several major multinational companies. For many years Adam held significant roles in the space industry he was a Design Authority at Astrium Satellites (Now Airbus Space) Payload processing group for six years and for three years he was the Chief Engineer of e2v Space Imaging, being responsible for several game changing projects.
