Swami Hindle's 2015 Industry Predictions

December 22, 2014

Swami Hindle

It is that time of year, here are my predictions for 2015:

1.  The hot areas for 2015 will be 5G, IoT and UAVs

2.  Consumer wearables will switch from fitness monitoring to health/medical monitoring

3.  UAVs will be legalized for many commercial applications ahead of FAA schedule as safety issues become the major concern

4.  Alternative modulation schemes and mmWaves will be heavily investigated for 5G

5.  Mergers will occur in software and test/measurement industry

6.  PXI- and PC-based test solutions will take significant share from traditional box solutions

7.  New plating methods and PCB materials will enter into the RF/microwave market

8.  Metamaterial applications will become more mainstream and be used in practical applications

9.  New changes to ITAR rules will help foreign military sales but domestic markets will be weak

10. CMOS and GaN will put the squeeze on the GaAs market and limit its applications

Let me know what you think will happen in 2015.
