A New Year, a New Look, the Same Mission

We start this New Year with several new features to Microwave Journal, and one long-standing mission.

January 7, 2005

I’ll begin with the changes, since you’ve probably noticed the most obvious of them already. Yes, the cover has a new look and a new direction. The cover graphic will now reflect the editorial theme for the issue, as illustrated in this month’s “Radar/Antennas” focus. Less obvious, but no less significant, is the change to the cover story, which will now relate specifically to the featured editorial focus for each month, providing insight into the current state and future trends of that particular market or product segment, and written by an industry expert. This month’s cover story is titled “Radar Today,” and is authored by David Barton, a renowned expert in the field of radar.

Another new feature is the “Wireless Technologies” supplement, which will be mailed with your November issue of Microwave Journal and Telecommunications, our sister publication. This unique piece follows the model of the highly successful “Military Microwaves” supplement, which debuted last August, and the third annual “Cables and Connectors” supplement in March. The “Wireless Technologies” supplement will feature exclusive editorial on the latest developments in wireless communications, as well as interviews with key personnel from both the wireless infrastructure and wireless provider sectors.

Many of you have probably heard about the new MTT-S Radio and Wireless Symposium, to debut in January of 2006. Horizon House/Microwave Journal is proud to have been chosen as the event manager for the exhibition, in addition to its management of the MTT-S IMS and European Microwave Week exhibitions. The December issue will now serve as the show issue for MTT-S RWS. We hope that you’ll join us in San Diego, CA.

Microwave Journal Online will be undergoing some major changes shortly. The redesigned site will feature a new look, improved navigation, new resources and additional exclusive online features. Watch for the changes at www.mwjournal.com.

Lastly, we are pleased to announce that Microwave Journal is now available in digital format. The digital edition is delivered as a .pdf exact replica that uses Adobe Reader and reads just like the printed version. Benefits include immediate delivery, hyperlinked articles and advertisements, and keyword searches. Neat stuff. You can check it out at www.qmags.com/mwj.

We will continue to make changes that are designed to enhance your reading experience and broaden your technical knowledge. What will not change is our commitment to providing you with the high quality technical information, industry news and resources that you have come to expect from the pages of Microwave Journal. That has been our mission for nearly fifty years and continues to be our mission for the future.

I welcome your comments. You can contact me at csheffres@mwjournal.com.

Wishing all of our readers a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
