Hittite Expands RMS, Log Detector/Controllers and SDLVAs Power Detector Line

March 6, 2009

Hittite Microwave Corp., a supplier of complete MMIC-based solutions for communication and military markets, continues to expand its Power Detector product line to include an extensive range of industry-leading RMS Power Detectors, Logarithmic Detectors and SDLVAs that cover the entire 50 Hz to 20 GHz frequency range with best-in-class performance. Hittite now offers 13 Power Detector products.

Hittite has introduced two new industry leading single and dual RMS power detectors, the HMC614LP4E and the HMC714LP5E. These devices are the first integrated RMS power detectors capable of simultaneously measuring the instantaneous (RF envelope) power and the true RMS power of any RF input signal up to 5.8 GHz. Ideally suited to wide bandwidth, wide dynamic range applications requiring repeatable power measurement over temperature, these RMS detectors feature peak-to-average ratio output signals which provide a direct read of signal crest factor.

The HMC614LP4E provides a differential input sensing range of 72 dB, to ±1 dB detection accuracy up to 3.9 GHz with excellent crest factor immunity and temperature stability. Operating from low frequency up to 3.9 GHz, and ideal for dual-channel systems, the HMC714LP5E dual channel RMS power detector provides excellent channel isolation, correlation between channels and up to 75 dB of dynamic range on both channels at 1.9 GHz. Operating from a +5 V supply, the HMC614LP4E and HMC714LP5E are specified for operation over the -40° to +85°C temperature range, and are supplied in compact 4x4 mm and 5x5 mm leadless SMT packages.

The HMC610LP4E is a single channel, high accuracy true RMS power detector that operates from 0.1 to 3.9 GHz, and provides up to 75 dB of differential input sensing range. The HMC610LP4E operates from a +5 V supply, is specified from -40° to +85°C, and is supplied in compact 4x4 mm leadless SMT package.

Targeted at high reliability, military and laboratory applications, the HMC-C054 hermetic, connectorized RMS power detector module operates from 0.01 to 2 GHz and provides a true RMS representation of any RF/IF input signal. This robust module exhibits ±1 dB detection accuracy up to 2 GHz with an input sensing range of 70 dB, while operating from a +12bV single supply. The HMC-C054 exhibits a nominal logarithmic slope of 37 mV/dB, an intercept of -70 dBm, and is specified for operation from -55° to +85°C.

Hittite’s complete family of Logarithmic Detector/Controller products span the 50 Hz to 10 GHz frequency range, provide up to 75 dB of dynamic range, and are ideal for RF envelope power detection and control in a wide range of applications, including Cellular/3G, LTE/WiMAX/4G, fixed wireless, test & measurement, radio links and radar. The HMC600LP4E delivers an extremely high dynamic range of up to 75 dB with outstanding accuracy and temperature stability from 50 MHz to 4 GHz, while operating from a +2.7 to +5.5 V supply. Ideal for detection of RF bursts up to 20 MHz pulse rate, the HMC601LP4E is pin compatible with the HMC600LP4E and delivers 74 dB dynamic range with high accuracy and temperature stability over the 10 MHz to 4 GHz frequency range. The HMC602LP4E provides high accuracy and temperature stability and up to 72 dB of dynamic range from 1 MHz to 8 GHz.

The HMC611LP4E offers the broadest frequency range in the family from 1 MHz to 10 GHz, provides up to 69 dB of dynamic range, and is also available in chip format as the HMC611. The HMC611LP4E and the HMC611 operate from a +5 V supply. The HMC612LP4E is optimized for low frequency applications from 50 Hz to 3 GHz, provides up to 75 dB of dynamic range and very wide video bandwidth while operating from a +5 V supply.

Ideal for cost-constrained cellular infrastructure applications, the HMC713MS8E is a 54 dB dynamic range Logarithmic Detector/Controller which operates from 0.1 to 2.7 GHz with a +2.7 to +5.5 V supply voltage and is supplied in an MSOP-8 SMT package. The HMC600LP4E, HMC601LP4E, HMC602LP4E, HMC611, HMC611LP4E, HMC612LP4E and the HMC713MS8E are specified for operation from -40° to +85°C.

The HMC613LC4B, is an industry first MMIC SDLVA that operates over 0.1 to 20 GHz, and is housed in a 4x4mm ceramic SMT package. The HMC613LC4B delivers a logging range of 62 dB and processes RF pulses with amplitudes from -57 dBm to +5 dBm with 26 ns of recovery time. Ideal for designers with space and power-constrained applications, the HMC613LC4B consumes only 275 mW from a single +3.3 V supply. The HMC-C052 wideband SDLVA module operates from -55° to +85°C, and is ideal for high reliability applications requiring a hermetic connectorized solution.
