Italian Job for SELEX Galileo’s ATOS Mission System

January 26, 2009

As part of Alenia Aeronautica’s contract with Italy’s Direzione Generale Armamenti Aeronautici (General Management for Aeronautical Armaments), for the supply of four ATR72 Maritime Patrol aircraft, SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica company, will integrate its ATOS mission system with the Seaspray AESA Radar, which is an installation first for an Italian aircraft.

Under the terms of the contract, SELEX Galileo is responsible for the supply of four ATOS mission systems in a Maritime Long Range Surveillance (MLRS) version, integrating the Seaspray 7300 AESA radar, the electro-optical turret EOST-23, a tactical data link, IFF, AIS, communication and ESM.

This development builds on the success of the Seaspray range in contracts with AgustaWestland for the integration of the Seaspray 7000E AESA Radar to the sensor suite of the UK Royal Navy’s Future Lynx helicopter (SCMR variant), Seaspray 7500E’s successful operation with the US Coast Guard and its recent selection by the Ecuadorian Navy.
