Tektronix Test and Measurement Workshops

October 16, 2007

Through its EuMW workshops the company covered a variety of currently hot topics. The abstracts below offer more detail. To access the actual workshops, click here.

An Introduction to Digital Phosphor Technology–DPX™

Digital Phosphor™ Technology in Real-Time Spectrum Analyzers is a revolutionary tool for signal discovery. Detection is the first step in characterizing, diagnosing, understanding and resolving any problem relating to time-variant signals. As more channels crowd into available bandwidth, new applications utilize wireless transmission, and RF systems become digital-based, engineers need better tools to help them find and interpret complex behaviors and interactions. Tektronix’ patented Digital Phosphor technology, standard in the next-generation RSA6100A Series Real-Time Spectrum Analyzers (RTSA), reveals signal details that conventional spectrum analyzers and vector signal analyzers completely miss. The full-motion DPX™ Spectrum’s live RF display shows signals never seen before, giving users instant insight and greatly accelerating discovery and diagnosis.

Advanced Radar Testing

Modern Radar must gather more information and make decisions faster than ever before. This can be accomplished by transmitting modulated pulses. Advanced Radars often use chirp modulation and ever-increasing bandwidth to increase the range resolution, as well as to determine more information about the target, or even multiple targets. These pulses present difficult measurement challenges, as even small phase errors can introduce false targets. The seminar on Advanced Radar Measurements reviews Tektronix' Real Time Spectrum Analyzer technology and introduce the latest measurements for chirped Radar and very wideband Radars. The seminar covers the measurement problems that need to be solved, and the solutions available. Measurement results will be shown for pulses with 10 to 100 MHz width, as well as extremely wideband chirps 2 GHz wide.

Advanced Testing of Digital Pre-distortion Designs

Digital Pre-distortion (DPD) techniques have emerged as among the most promising linearization methods to optimize operating efficiency and reduce interference on wireless, satellite and other systems. Characterization and troubleshooting DPD systems present new challenges since digital artifacts introduced into the transmit chain are frequently transient in nature and are difficult or impossible to capture or analyze using conventional spectrum analyzers. The presentation introduces advanced RTSA as an essential tool for effective DPD troubleshooting and characterization. It shows analysis and characterization of DPD systems by taking advantage of wide capture bandwidth and deep memory on RTSA. It also covers unique digital phosphor displays and frequency mask triggers capabilities. Those unique features are demonstrated to detect and analyze dynamic and digitally pre-distorted RF signals and capture low-level transient events potentially present in DPD systems.
