Ultrabroadband Baluns: HL9408 and HL9409

February 15, 2022

HYPERLABS’ latest two baluns push the high frequency limit for ultra-broadband performance. The HL9408 has a usable 3 dB bandwidth from 500 kHz to 85 GHz, and the HL9409 covers 500 kHz to greater than 90 GHz at the -3 dB point and 100 GHz at -4 dB. The HL9409 design is being further optimized to extend the 3 dB bandwidth to at least 100 GHz.

The HL940x series are 180-degree signal splitters with excellent amplitude and phase match over the entire specified bandwidth. The HL9408 and HL9409 have 1.0 mm connectors on each of the three ports, and the standard housings measure 2.25 x 1.50 x 0.40 in.

These latest baluns are in the preliminary release phase of development, with S-parameter data files available for each and demo units available for evaluation. Both are suitable for use in 200 Gbps PAM4 communications systems, high speed analog-to-digital conversion, frequency response testing for differential devices and other wideband applications.

Founded in 1992 and privately owned, HYPERLABS develops ultra-broadband components operating to frequencies above 67 GHz and working to extend the frequency coverage of its products into the 100 GHz realm. Its component products include power splitters, bias tees, pickoff tees, DC blocks and transition time convertors. HYPERLABS’ baluns are manufactured by the company’s skilled hybrid assemblers at its Louisville, Colo., facility.

HYPERLABS also offers a line of instrumentation, including the industry’s first USB-powered and controlled time domain reflectometry instruments, controlled impedance analyzers, signal path analyzers, samplers and harmonic mixers.
