Verus® Research Announces Small Business Innovative Research Contract to Support the Department of Defense

April 26, 2022

Verus® Research, a New Mexico-based team of scientists and engineers specializing in advanced research and development, announced it has received a small business innovative research contract to support the Department of Defense Joint Intermediate Force Capabilities Office (JIFCO). Through the contract, Verus Research will provide a broadband counter-electronics weapon for long-range non-lethal vehicle/vessel stopping.

“We are honored to receive a new contract to support the JIFCO and continue our relationship with the Department of Defense,” said Dr. J. Mark DelGrande, chief technology officer at Verus Research. “Our work will bring cutting edge directed energy solutions to the defense department and we are thrilled to be a part of this special project.”

Through the contract, Verus Research will develop a compact and lightweight long-range counter-electronic vehicle/vessel stopping system that uses non-lethal means to stop relevant vehicles and vessels, thereby mitigating a codified joint non-lethal weapon capability gap. The goal is to develop a product that will significantly reduce overall system size, weight, power consumption and thermal cooling needs, as well as reduce system costs. The U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps will benefit from the research which could potentially replace existing radio frequency vehicle and vessel stopping systems.
