Xilinx to Showcase End-to-End 5G O-RAN Solutions at MWC

Xilinx, which plays a critical role at every layer of the 5G landscape, from core and edge applications to the radio, will be showcasing the breadth of its 5G O-RAN offerings, February 28 to March 3, in Hall 2, Stand 2M61, at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

5G technology enables compute-intensive applications, like autonomous vehicles, industrial IoT and AI, to process data at the edge, resulting in nearly instantaneous access to information, and greater operational efficiencies. The O-RAN solutions are based on open standard specifications defined by the O-RAN Alliance, and are complimentary to 3GPP standards. O-RAN specifications are designed to help build a more competitive supplier ecosystem with faster innovation.

“Xilinx has been at the heart of the telco infrastructure for years, improving workload performance and scalability in base stations and radios as well as the wireless core network, and accelerating applications at both the edge and cloud,” stated Gilles Garcia, senior director of the WWG business unit at Xilinx.  

“Now helping to drive broad industry adoption of 5G technology, we are offering a wide array of O-RAN solutions ranging from a massive MIMO radio prototype, RFSoC devices for single-radio chip design, and telco accelerator cards to virtualized radio access network (VRAN) solutions for private 5G networks,” he added.

At MWC, Xilinx will demonstrate how its cutting-edge radio and CU/DU systems technologies are delivering groundbreaking 5G experiences to consumers and enterprise customers. Demos will include a 5G O-RAN mMIMO radio 64T64R prototype with Keysight Technologies’ DU emulator, and an open 5G VRAN platform demo complete with a telco accelerator card and CU-DU units running to an AMD server. VRANs like these offer operators improved efficiency and flexibility to meet the growing performance and latency demands of 5G customers. 

Among other highlights, Xilinx is also planning to demonstrate a Zynq® UltraScale+™ RFSoC DFE-based C-band macro radio, showcasing 400MHz IBW performance with a high-power amplifier connected to it, and a 5G VRAN demo with a software provider, designed for private 5G networks.

Beyond technology demos, Xilinx is also hosting a Power Hour theatre session entitled “5G Leadership with Technology and Solutions” on Wednesday, March 2 at 9:30 a.m. in Theatre 2, Hall 7.
