HUBER+SUHNER Unveils New Surge Protection Devices to Enhance Defense Against Electronic Warfare Attacks

April 28, 2021

HUBER+SUHNER has expanded its portfolio of surge protection devices (SPDs) to address the growing sophistication of electronic warfare (EW) attacks and to ensure enhanced protection against environmental and electrical disruptions.

The new 3404.00.0011 and .0012 SPDs feature a new feed-through design to ensure the reliable protection of critical radio equipment, including manpack and vehicle-mounted radios, against threats such as surge, ESD and NSL. These broadband SPDs cover the majority of frequency bands for software-defined radios to ensure clear and reliable communication, while the waterproof N-micro-miniature coaxial connector (MMCX) or TNC-MMCX interface make them suitable for use in harsh environments (IP68).

The SPDs feature a robust stainless-steel housing with an integrated coaxial gas discharge tube and feed-through design for easy installation. These units were designed to support the defense-oriented size, weight and power initiative with the incorporation of the MMCX on the unprotected side of the SPD.

“The threat of EW attacks designed to interfere with critical communication systems is rising and requires communication providers to deploy secure, robust solutions that will safeguard sensitive equipment,” said Catalin Prahase, product manager for Radio Frequency Components at HUBER+SUHNER. “As the world’s security and defense forces grow increasingly dependent on seamless wireless communication, the protection of essential radio equipment is critical.”
