Global mobile Suppliers Association Adds Global 4G and 5G Chipset Data to GAMBoD Database

September 15, 2020

The Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) announced the launch of its GAMBoD Chipset database, a global resource containing the latest data on 4G and 5G chipsets and their commercial status. The GSA GAMBoD database is a unique search and analysis tool that has been developed to enable searches of LTE and 5G devices and new global data on mobile broadband networks, technologies and spectrum (NTS). The addition of the GAMBoD Chipset database further extends the breadth and depth of mobile ecosystem data now available. Access to GAMBoD is fully available to all employees of GSA executive and ordinary member companies and GSA associates who subscribe to the service.

The launch of the Chipset database builds on extensive research undertaken by GSA into the key components of the mobile ecosystem, including its quarterly chipset status reports on LTE, 5G and 3GPP IoT chipsets. The September 2020 report identifies 20 commercially available 5G mobile processors/platforms and eight commercially available discrete 5G modems from five semi-conductor companies. In addition, GSA has identified two pre-commercial 5G modems. The maximum peak theoretical speed claimed to be offered by any of the commercial discrete 5G modems currently reaches 7.5 Gbps DL and 3.67 Gbps UL.

Joe Barrett, president of GSA commented, “GSA continues to add new features to its GAMBoD database to help the industry gain clear insights into how the mobile ecosystem is developing and to support GSA industry reporting. The Chipset database is the latest new feature and we will be adding further capabilities as the mobile ecosystem develops.”

GAMBoD is a web-based search and analysis tool and is updated monthly or quarterly depending on the progress of the industry in different segments. The 4G and 5G Devices database can be searched by supplier, form factor, device category, features, peak downlink and uplink speed and operating frequency. The NTS database can be searched by technology, network feature, device category supported, downlink and uplink speed and spectrum bands used. Results can be filtered by regions and are presented as a list or as charts.

New functionality and research activity is added to the GAMBoD platform annually and GSA takes recommendations from members and associates on what areas of the industry the GSA research should focus. GSA publishes numerous industry reports throughput the year based on data from its GAMBoD database, with summary reports made available for free download by visitors to the GSA website.
