Mercury Systems Announces SOSA-Aligned Ultra-Wideband Dual Microwave Up-Converter

April 21, 2020

Mercury Systems announced the SpectrumSeries™ RFM3103s wideband dual up-converter, which supports the sensor open systems architecture (SOSA) technical standard for electronic warfare (EW) environments. Mercury will accept orders for RFM3103s modules in the third quarter of this year.

The standard configuration of the RFM3103s is two transmit modules installed on two OpenRFM™ module sites. Module parameters such as instantaneous bandwidth, frequency range and output power are adjustable.

Neal Austin, vice president and general manager of Mercury’s embedded sensor processing group, said the dual up-converter aligns with “snapshot three” of the SOSA reference architecture technical standard.

“Additionally, it is the first in a new series of RF solutions that enable users to better mitigate electronic threats with the rapid deployment of innovative and secure technology,” he said.

With the modularity of the up-converter, the design enables easy modifications, rather than requiring a full redesign, which reduces development cost and time. By creating a common architecture that streamlines system integration, the rugged and compact up-converter enables system interoperability and upgrades. It will support a diverse range of unmanned systems on platforms such as ground, airborne and subsurface.
