Peraso Announces Family of Antennas for the 60 GHz Unlicensed Band

February 3, 2020

Peraso Technologies announced a family of phased array antennas for the 60 GHz unlicensed band today. The PER-PAx series is designed to integrate with the company’s 802.11ad RFICs to provide customers with improved performance, bandwidth and reliability and reduce system cost, according to Peraso.

Features of the antenna solutions include:

  • Low cost design using multi-layer construction, based on fiber-resin substrates and standard process technology — no exotic soft-board or ceramic substrates.
  • Consistent gain over the full 57 to 71 GHz unlicensed frequency band.
  • Air-gap dielectric for increased antenna gain and system performance (PER-PAG models).
  • Support for parabolic reflectors with phased array beam steering to optimize antenna aiming (PER-PAD models).
  • Repeatable performance in volume production.
  • Stable over wide operating temperature range.

The first version of the PER-PAG series, the PER7213-PAG, contains 64 elements configured in a 2D scanning array and achieves 22 dBi gain across the full unlicensed frequency band. Integrated with Peraso’s X720 60 GHz chipset, the system supports a 1.5 km link without a dish antenna.

The PER7211-PAD, the first PER-PAD model, is designed to feed a 390 mm dish antenna, with 44 dBi gain. Integrated with the X720 chipset, the system will support data rates of 1 Gbps over a 5 km link.

Bill McLean, President and CEO of Peraso, said, “The PER-PAx antennas provide a solution that the mmWave industry needs in order to reduce system cost without sacrificing performance. Coupled with our new X720 chipset, our customers are able to build multi-gigabit mmWave radio links with ranges in excess of 5 km.”

Peraso will be exhibiting at Mobile World Congress 2020 in Barcelona, February 24–27.
