Ampleon Launches Rugged 12 V LDMOS PAs for Land Mobile Radio
To bolster its land mobile radio offering, Ampleon is launching a new line of 12 V LDMOS transistors in ceramic and plastic packages, using Ampleon’s ninth generation LDMOS process. Targeting commercial, public safety and defense mobile radio applications, the products in the product family will be supported for a minimum of 15 years, according to Ampleon.
The first two products being released are the BLP9LA25S and the BLP5LA55S, which deliver 25 and 55 W, respectively, and cover the entire VHF and UHF frequency bands from 2 to 941 MHz. They have > 65 percent drain efficiency with >18 dB gain over the full operating frequency range. Devices in the family will survive extreme mismatch — >65:1 VSWR — making them rugged for handheld radio environments.
The two transistors are packaged in compact overmolded plastic TO270 packages, to reduce size and lower cost.
Ampleon says the devices have excellent linearity and are well suited for TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) systems. The gain and efficiency performance enables designs with fewer stages and simplified cooling.
Qualification samples of the BLP5LA55S and the BLP9LA25S are available via Ampleon’s local sales channels. Reference circuits for various frequency bands and also available.
Production volumes of both products are planned during this last quarter of 2019.
