Peraso Announces Latest 60 GHz Chipset for Fixed Wireless

September 10, 2019

Peraso Technologies pre-announced the launch of the X720 pre-802.11ay WiGig® chipset, developed for fixed wireless access (FWA) and small cell backhaul systems.

The chipset will sample in September, and full production is scheduled for Q4 2019, according to the company.

Features of the X720 include:

  • 24 dBm output power with QPSK modulation, the highest power chipset complaint with WiGig.
  • Covering the entire North American unlicensed frequency band from 57 to 71 GHz, where operation in the 64 to 71 GHz range significantly increases propagation, due to the lower oxygen absorption than in the lower portion of the band.
  • Half- and quarter-channel bandwidth and 16 multiplexed Rx/Tx ports for inexpensive phased-array or dish antenna implementations.

For FWA, equipment using the X720 can reach distances of 1.5 km, significantly higher than links currently available. Using a dish antenna for applications such as 5G backhaul, the chipset supports 5 km link distances at a rate of 2 Gbps.

“The X720 is the highest performance WiGig chipset ever brought to market. With unprecedented output power, support of the 64 to 71 GHz band and utilization of our highly competitive phased array antenna solutions, the X720 is set to upend the current economics of the fixed wireless access marketplace.” — Bill McLean, President and CEO of Peraso

“This chipset expands the 60 GHz FWA ecosystem which we forecast to grow at 16 percent CAGR from 2018 to 2024, bringing a higher price/performance silicon solution to the market.” — Kyung Mun, principal analyst for FWA at Mobile Experts
