Qorvo Closes Active-Semi Deal, Expects $50M First-Year Revenue

May 9, 2019

On 10 April, Qorvo announced it was acquiring Active Semi International, a private fabless supplier of programmable analog power solutions. Qorvo did not disclose the purchase price nor answer Microwave Journal’s questions about the rationale for the acquisition and what it says about Qorvo’s future growth strategy, since Active-Semi is outside of Qorvo’s historical RF swim lane.

During the fourth quarter earnings call this week, CEO Bob Bruggeworth said the acquisition closed on Monday (May 6), and CFO Mark Murphy said Qorvo expects Active-Semi to contribute $50 million in revenue during Qorvo’s 2020 fiscal year, which began March 31.

During the Q&A portion of the call, Toshiya Hari, an analyst with Goldman Sachs, asked Qorvo to “talk a little bit more about Active-Semi.” Listen to Hari’s question and James Klein’s and Mark Murphy’s responses. Klein is president of Qorvo’s infrastructure and defense segment, where Active-Semi becomes the segment’s newest business venture.
