Anokiwave Joins 5G O-RAN Alliance
Anokiwave Inc. has joined the 5G Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) alliance as a contributing member, supporting its vision of open, interoperable interfaces to maximize using common off-the-shelf hardware.
O-RAN, announced at Mobile World Congress 2018, is an alliance formed by the world's major mobile operators — AT&T, NTT DoCoMo, China Mobile, Orange, Deutsche Telekom — to open, cooperate and share 5G technology. The alliance aims to expand the 5G ecosystem by evolving the radio access network (RAN) toward using open, interoperable interfaces.
Anokiwave expects to contribute to the O-RAN alliance through technical contributions on hardware, focusing on the millimeter wave active antenna for 5G, the active antenna unit (AAU) and remote radio unit (RRU) specifications and interface definitions.
“We are pleased to join O-RAN alliance, as we expect this will help accelerate the adoption of off-the shelf millimeter wave hardware, thus further enabling the commercialization of active antennas for 5G. In conjunction with our customers and business partners, our products are already in use by several O-RAN alliance network providers.” — Alastair Upton, Anokiwave senior VP of business development
