Vodafone Romania and Huawei Demonstrate 1.35 Gbps with 4.5G

January 9, 2017

Vodafone Romania demonstrated its readiness towards the 4.5G era, using the E2E solution from Huawei. The test proved, over the air interface, a 1.35 Gbps LTE connection in an experimental structure not isolated from the commercial network. Besides throughput, the tested technology revealed one of the highest spectral efficiencies, being close to the theoretical value of 1.38 Gbps. The technology used was a combination of: 4x4 MIMO, an innovative mix of FDD + TDD over 5 Carrier Aggregation and higher order modulation – 256 QAM.

Vodafone Romania CTO, Catalin Buliga commented: “Following the past two years’ consistent investments, our network has evolved significantly and now leads in leveraging the 4G+ technology for the benefit of our customers. We now launch Supernet 4G+ and provide higher speeds, the best mobile experience for HD video, as certified by the independent auditor P3 Communications, deeper indoor coverage and enhanced security. By mastering the 4G+ technology and our advanced mobile infrastructure, we were able to cross the barrier of 1 Gbps download speed in our tests. We have reached 1.35 Gbps with the great efforts of joint team between Vodafone with Huawei, far ahead of what today terminals can sustain.”

“As the strategic partner, Huawei will spare no efforts and keep continuously supporting Vodafone Romania with the most advanced technologies, achieve the best business practice and success.” said Kevin Liu, Huawei Romania CEO.

Vodafone Romania has launched Supernet 4G+, which provides extended benefits to customers through the widest 4G+ coverage in the country, available in all the 41 county capitals, Bucharest and another 330 localities.

“After providing our users with advanced services through Supernet 4G, we now launch Supernet 4G+, to offer a new generation of customer experience. With Supernet 4G+, we are able to offer the best combination of technology and services to drive the new trend of consumer behavior, which includes increasing data consumption on mobile and interactive gaming”, said Andrea Rossini, Consumer Business Unit Director, Vodafone Romania.
