Verizon Fios Available in First Boston Neighborhoods
Verizon has announced the first availability of Fios service to several Boston neighborhoods. The fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network will provide wired broadband, HD video programming and phone services, with equal upload and download speeds of up to 500 Mbps.
This initial service occurs eight months after the company outlined a $300 million, six year investment to build a fiber-optic platform across Boston. Since April's announcement, Verizon has placed more than 160 miles of fiber-optic cable throughout Boston, including large capacity feeder lines above and underneath city streets.
Customers in parts of Dorchester, Roslindale and West Roxbury can sign up for Fios service, checking availability at specific addresses at http://www.verizon.com/BostonFios. Fios is offering a “triple play bundle” of 150/150 Mbps internet, custom TV and phone service beginning at $79.99 per month with a one year commitment.
Fios expansion is continuing in Dorchester, Roslindale, West Roxbury and parts of Roxbury throughout the coming year. Verizon plans Fios to be available in Roxbury's Dudley Square Innovation District before the end of 2016.
