CPI awarded $1.5M in contracts for maritime, GaN-based solid-state BUCs

September 9, 2016

The Communications & Medical Products (CMP) Division of Communications & Power Industries LLC (CPI) has been awarded two contracts aggregately valued in excess of $1.5 million from an Asian integrator for the company’s 40 and 50 W Ku-Band GaN-based block up-converters (BUCs) and related accessories. These solid-state BUCs will be used to provide satellite uplinks for seagoing vessels, primarily for ship-to-shore communications. CPI was selected for these contracts in part due to the excellent efficiency and linearity that CPI GaN BUCs provide.

“CPI has many years of experience providing solid state BUCs for maritime applications,” said Tony Russell, vice-president of CPI’s CMP Division. “Thousands of shipboard personnel, as well as many land-based terminal users and oil rig operators worldwide, utilize these products every day because of their reliability and performance.”

CPI is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of high power amplifiers for satellite communications. CPI’s broad line of HPAs includes solid-state power amplifiers (SSPAs) and BUCs, traveling wave tube amplifiers (TWTAs) and klystron power amplifiers (KPAs), and the company’s amplifiers are used around the world in fixed and mobile gateways for both military and commercial applications. CPI offers amplifiers in frequencies from S-band to V-band and supports its fielded products through more than 20 service centers around the world.
