Maxim Integrated chosen as lead supplier for Xilinx UltraScale FPGAs

September 29, 2014

Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. announced that the company is the lead supplier for Xilinx UltraScale FPGAs. Maxim supplies the power management for three Xilinx FPGA reference designs. The first of these, the Xilinx Kintex UltraScale FPGA KCU105 Evaluation Kit, will allow system designers to evaluate the Maxim solution at X-Fest 2014.

The collaboration leverages Maxim’s ultra-flexible InTune™ digital power products, and for the first time lets Maxim leverage its high-density, high-efficiency Volterra technology for FPGA development boards. This flexibility and density of Maxim’s power products, coupled with the inherent flexibility and logic density of Xilinx’s 20 nm UltraScale FPGAs, give system designers an unprecedented advantage in performance, energy efficiency, and time to market. As a result, Maxim’s products are up to 30 percent smaller compared to previous generations on the market.

Complex communications systems can have dozens of power rails, many with stringent requirements for a reliable supply of high-current with limited space and heat dissipation. Power system designers benefit from the InTune built-in automatic compensation that minimizes design-in time by enabling a single design and layout for multiple power rails.

“We are honored to be the lead power supplier for UltraScale platforms from Xilinx,” said Todd Whitaker, vice president of marketing at Maxim Integrated. “At X-Fest, we will demonstrate our innovative power solutions and show designers how we can help solve their real-life, everyday challenges.”

“Maxim and Xilinx are a powerful combination in the marketplace,” said Dave Tokic, sr. director, partner ecosystems and alliances at Xilinx. “Maxim’s solutions make UltraScale power systems easier to design and provide a significant decrease in system design size. We’re excited about the value this collaboration brings to our customers.”

Maxim’s demos at X-fest will showcase the ease of configuring Maxim’s high-density, multiphase and InTune digital power solutions using Maxim’s PowerTool™ software. Other demos will highlight programmable analog for FPGAs, the EE-Sim® System Power online tool, analog reference designs, and more. Maxim engineers will be available to discuss solutions for next-generation design challenges.

About X-Fest 2014

X-Fest 2014 is a series of free, day-long technical training seminars cohosted by Xilinx and Avnet from September 2014 through January 2015. It will be hosted in 37 locations worldwide, throughout Asia, Europe, North America and Japan. The events will provide designers of FPGAs, systems on a chip (SoC), DSP, and embedded systems access to practical, how-to training through a global series of seminars. For more information or to view full course descriptions, locations, and registration information, please visit the X-Fest 2014 website.
