GOREĀ® ethernet cables provide high data rate in lightweight package

July 15, 2014

W. L. Gore & Associates Inc. (Gore) introduces GORE® Ethernet Cables to meet the military and civil aerospace markets' emerging need for higher data rate cables in a lightweight, flexible, and routable package. Featuring the unique cable jacket material found in GORE® 1394b FireWire Cables, GORE® Ethernet Cables provide the ideal combination of high speed and light weight necessary for a wide range of aerospace applications.

GORE® Ethernet Cables are engineered for the demands of modern airborne digital networks. This CAT-6A cable supports TIA-568 applications up to 10 gigabits while increasing signal density with reduced cable diameter. GORE® Ethernet Cables are available in two standard sizes – 24 AWG and 26 AWG.

GORE® Ethernet Cables carry on the heritage and proven success of GORE® Aerospace Cables such as GORE® 1394b FireWire Cables, which have long been the premier solution for 1394b FireWire data links on Lockheed Martin’s F-35 program.

“Gore's expertise and cable technology has produced a high-performance cable solution,” said Lorraine Martin, Lockheed Martin F-35 General Manager. “GORE® 1394b Military FireWire Cables have enabled Lockheed Martin to meet the stringent demands of the F-35 data transfer system while reducing weight on the platform.”

Tom Sharp, Gore Aerospace Cable Engineer, added, “Based on the success of GORE® 1394b Military FireWire Cables on the JSF program, we are excited about the launch of GORE® Ethernet Cables. This initiative brings our proven track record of lightweight and high-data-rate performance to a wider range of aircraft applications.”

Typical applications for GORE® Ethernet Cables include: avionics networks, digital video systems, cabin management systems, flight management systems, Ethernet backbone and in-flight entertainment systems.

Higher data rate systems require greater attention to all electrical parameters, such as impedance control, attenuation, crosstalk, and EMI. Craig Hislop, Gore Aerospace Product Manager, said, “Design engineers are integrating sophisticated electronics into almost every system of modern military and civil aircraft. It is essential for electronic systems to communicate reliably and accurately, and cables are the lifeline of these systems.”

GORE® Ethernet Cableswill be on display at Farnborough Air Show, July 14-20, Hall 1, Stand C15.  For more information on GORE® Ethernet Cables, visit gore.com/electronics, or contact a Gore applications specialist at electronics.usa@wlgore.com.
