Comtech awarded $4.2 M for DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier satellite modems

June 10, 2014
Comtech Telecommunications Corp. announced that its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., was awarded a $4.2 million order for DMD2050E Satellite Modems. A systems integrator ordered the equipment on behalf of the United States Army. The modems will be deployed to support mission-critical communications associated with a major military program.

The DMD2050E Satellite Modem is compliant with MIL-STD-188-165A, STANAG 4486 Edition 3, the draft standard MIL-STD-188-165B, and the IESS-308, IESS-309, IESS-310 and IESS-315 commercial standards. The modem provides highly advanced and bandwidth-efficient forward error correction and modulation capabilities. When integrated with the revolutionary DoubleTalk® Carrier-in-Carrier® bandwidth compression, users can minimize required satellite bandwidth and maximize both throughput and availability without using additional transponder resources. The best fit for the DMD2050E is for communications at-the-pause, flyaway and integrated satellite terminal communication applications.

“Our satellite modems are utilized in the majority of the Department of Defense’s tactical terminal programs,” commented Fred Kornberg, president and chief executive officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp. “This order demonstrates the U.S. Government’s confidence in Comtech to supply infrastructure products for significant communication programs.”
