Aeris Communications launches GSM automotive network services in N. America

June 27, 2013

Aeris Communications, the only cellular carrier built exclusively for machines, announced that it is providing network services to the automotive industry on the GSM network in North America, in addition to its long established position with CDMA technology.

“This is a first for the connected vehicle industry,” said Steve Millstein, Managing Director. “Aeris is a carrier that can provide solutions without a technology bias. We have automotive OEMs on CDMA and now GSM technologies. We have the ability to partner with the car companies to bring them the best solution for their business rather than the best fit for our business.”

The industry was seriously injured when the analog network was shut down and today it faces a similar risk. With multiple network technologies available, Aeris is uniquely positioned to not only provide the automotive OEMs with solutions designed specifically for their applications, but  a solution that reduces the risk of obsolescence; a proposition that is critical to the connected vehicle industry and the M2M space in general.

“Over the 15 years that we have been providing services to the M2M industry, we have learned that machines operate differently than people,” Millstein commented. “While that sounds incredibly obvious, it is amazing how many networks are not optimized for machines. We have proven technology and a unique business model that is built around machines and the requirements of customers who use them.”

In addition to FIAT, Aeris is also providing services to Honda’s (AcuraLink) and Hyundai’s (BlueLink) connected vehicle programs.

“We are thrilled to add FIAT to our customer list and GSM to our network capabilities,” Millstein concluded.
