 Eta Devices, Inc. announced that it has been named a 2015 Technology Pioneer by The World Economic Forum (WEF) for its groundbreaking technology that dramatically reduces the energy consumption of mobile base stations and smartphones 

 The growing appetite for on-the-go, real-time information and mobile entertainment services will see the total number of subscribers for 4G LTE and 4.5G LTE-Advanced grow to nearly 411 million and 22 million respectively by year-end 2014. ABI Research’s 4G network deployment tracker anticipates that 45 networks will have commercially launched LTE-Advanced by 4Q 2014.  

 Rogers Corp.’s Advanced Circuit Materials Division launched ROG Mobile, a free mobile app for apple and android devices. The new app allows users to access Rogers’ calculators, including the popular MWI (Microwave Impedance) simulation tool, literature, technical papers and the ability to order samples, all while on the go with their smart phones and tablets.

By the end of 2013, global LTE-related cellular subscriptions surpassed 230.9 million, 3.3 percrent of mobile subs, and will continue to grow at a CAGR of 36.6 perent between 2014 and 2019, exceeding 2 billion. The extensive presence of LTE networks is also stimulating the deployment of VoLTE. By the end of 2014, there are expected to be 59.6 million VoLTE subscriptions in place, and it is expected that nearly 56 percent of LTE-related cellular subscriptions will be using VoLTE services by the end of 2019.

NTT Docomo, Japan's biggest mobile operator, announced it is working with six suppliers to conduct various “experimental trials” for 5G involving higher frequency bands than those used for existing mobile technologies.

As worldwide Mobile Broadband Traffic heads toward 200 Exabytes per year, operators deploy 4G LTE, LTE-A, plead for spectrum, and try to manage usage through policy and pricing.  The physics of mobile broadband radio do not follow Moore’s Law of digital scaling, so leading-edge operators are ready to address the physical realities of small cells.  Nevertheless, the question remains; why not deploy carrier grade Wi-Fi with the small cells?
