Munich, April 1, 2009 — The new R&S TS8977 test system from Rohde & Schwarz handles standard-compliant measurements on terminal equipment that supports WiMAXTM and other broadband wireless access (BWA) standards. The R&S TS8977 makes it possible for the first time to run test cases stipulated by the new ETSI R&TTE directive.
Manufacturers and test houses will enjoy multiple benefits from the only all in-one solution available on the market. Automated test sequences ensure high efficiency because they make user control unnecessary during the time-consuming measurements of conducted spurious emissions. In addition, automatic system calibration yields high measurement reproducibility and accuracy.
The R&TTE (Radio & Telecom Terminal Equipment) directive of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) defines the rules that ensure disturbance-free wireless data traffic. It sets spurious emission limits for WiMAX and other BWA terminal equipment and stipulates immunity to interference caused by signals outside the wanted frequency. In the past, manufacturers and certification labs lacked an all-in-one solution that could perform the required out-of-band and conducted spurious emission measurements in line with standards. Rohde & Schwarz has met the challenge with the R&S TS8977, an efficient test system based on tried-and-tested Rohde & Schwarz instruments. Customers who already use such instruments can easily integrate them into the test system.
In order to enable seamless spurious emission testing, the new solution covers a very wide frequency range from 9 kHz to max. 40 GHz, depending on the application. These extensive tests usually take several hours. By offering a high degree of automation the R&S TS8977 reduces operator involvement and minimizes error probability. The highly intuitive R&S PASS user interface, which has proven its mettle in market-leading Rohde & Schwarz conformance test systems, also enhances convenience. These benefits combine to yield time-optimized measurements and reduce training requirements.
The R&S TS8977 currently supports all ETSI EN 302 623 v.1.1.1 and ETSI EN 302 544-2 v1.0.0 test cases. Due to its modular concept, the test system is ready to meet future challenges. It can easily be upgraded, for example, to provide regulatory measurements on UMTS LTE terminal equipment in line with 3GPP 36.521-1.
The R&S TS8977 test system is now available from Rohde & Schwarz.
