CEITEC S.A. a Brazilian company focused on the development and production of application-specific standard products (ASSPs), has been developing a new system on chip (SOC) under a contract with Hemobras, the goal of which is to develop a RFID chip expanding its current product family. This week, the company announced that its "Chip do Boi" RFID semiconductor successfully completed a 12-month field trial conducted by Brazil’s Ministry of Science and Technology, confirming that the first chip developed entirely in Brazil is ready for market.

This particular field study is sure to keep the resulting SOC far ahead of the rest of the herd

The one-year field trail that included over 2,500 cows was conducted at two different farms. During the trial, the chips achieved a 100 percent success rate. The Chip do Boi is a monolithic integrated circuit designed for read-only, low-frequency Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). The chip reacts to a signal transmission from a reader to wake up digital logic and sends back a 128–bit identification telegram. The chip is made up of a resonance capacitor at 390pF and a resistor at 1MΩ is used to create the chip.

The device is ISO compliant with FDX-B full duplex transmissions and differential bi-phase encoding with an operating frequency of 134.2 kHz. The battery-free chip has 128 bits of factory programmable memory, with a range of up to 30 cm and a broad temperature range of -40° C to 85° C.

“The trial demonstrated that these chips perform perfectly under field conditions and we are ecstatic because beef is one of Brazil’s largest exports,” says Dr. Cylon Gonçalves da Silva, CEO of CEITEC.

... and thats no bull. (sorry, someone had to say it)

The battery-free chip has 128 bits of factory programmable memory, and is characterized for a broad temperature range from -40° C to 85° C. The complete RFID end product will be developed by other Brazilian partners for purchase by cattle farmers.

CEITEC S.A. is a Brazilian company focused in the development and production of application-specific standard products (ASSPs) for the RFID, wireless communications and digital multimedia market segments. The company’s design center, located in Porto Alegre, will develop chips that perform a strategic role in Brazil’s microelectronics industry. The company’s adjoining factory, now in the final stages of assembly and certification, is the first and only facility of its kind in Latin America to produce chips. CEITEC S.A. has a mission to place Brazil among the world leaders in advanced microelectronics.
