Astrium Americas announced that its subsidiary, Astrium Services Government Inc., will offer UAE-owned Yahsat Military Ka-Band service to the U.S. government. This service allows any U.S. government or Department of Defense end user to utilize Yahsat Military Ka-Band capacity that is compatible with the Wideband Global Satellite (WGS) constellation for greater global coverage and reliability.

Cassidian and Astrium Services aim is to provide operations centres and the departmental fire and rescue services in France with access to dedicated satellite communications that are available 24/7.

Astrium has been awarded a three year contract by the European Defence Agency (EDA) to provide commercial satellite communications capacity for European military needs.

Astrium and Thales Alenia Space, Europe’s leading space companies, have successfully completed the in-orbit testing of the Y1B satellite, conducted from the Yahsat control centre in Abu Dhabi (UAE).  

Astrium continues to drive the implementation of the European Data Relay System (EDRS). As prime contractor, Astrium Services has contracted the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) to implement and operate major parts of the ground network.

Astrium has been awarded two contracts from the Russian Satellite Communications Company (RSCC) for the delivery of two telecommunication satellites – Express AM4R and Express AM7.
