Technical Education Webinar Series
Title: Design Innovations in 5G mmWave FEMs and Phased Arrays
Date: March 14, 2018
Time: 8am PT / 11am ET
Sponsored by: GlobalFoundries
Presented by: Baljit Chandhoke, Product Line Manager, GLOBALFOUNDRIES RF Business Unit
5G is the new generation of radio systems and network architecture. It will deliver faster data rates, lower latency connectivity and higher bandwidths in the millimeter wave (mmWave) bands (28, 39, 60, 86 GHz, …) to support many different applications including: 5G handsets, wireless infrastructure, WiGig, ADAS, small cells and LEO/GEO broadband satellite communications.
5G will change front-end module (FEM) architecture, driving the integration of PAs, LNAs, switches and phase shifters. 5G mmWave provides excellent spatial selectivity/separation and when combined with massive MIMO operation, can deliver very high cell-edge data rates to individual users.
This webinar discusses 5G mmWave applications based on phased array systems, including:
Technology choices enable optimization across these applications. Chip designers can leverage the collective benefits of RF-centric technology features, device stacking, an optimized BEOL and a high-resistivity substrate to develop differentiated products. This webinar explores how design/technology innovations like these can be used to optimize chips for 5G mmWave FEMs and phased arrays applications, with topics including:
