Technical Education Webinar Series
Title: Demystifying the 5G NR Physical Layer
Date: March 15, 2018
Time: 8am PT / 11am ET
Sponsored by: Rohde and Schwarz
Presented by: Meik Kottkamp and Andreas Roessler
In December 2017, 3GPP officially released its first set of Release 15 specifications describing the physical layer for the 5G New Radio (NR)
technology. Final specifications on the 5G NR protocol stack are still ongoing and will be completed by March 2018 with Abstract Syntax
Notification One (ASN.1). Further corrections and clarifications in the physical layer specifications can be expected during this timeframe as 3GPP members start implementation and discover potential areas of improvement. Initial 5G NR deployments will focus on a non-standalone (NSA) mode. In the next step, 3GPP will specify a standalone (SA) mode by mid-2018. This webinar provides an overview of the latest 5G NR physical layer specification, discusses the test challenges related to 5G and demonstrates practical test solutions. The webinar concludes with a look at the challenges involved in SA operation.
Attendees will learn:
Meik Kottkamp is Principal Technology Manager in the Test and Measurement Division of Rohde & Schwarz in Munich. He is responsible for strategic marketing and product portfolio development covering the enhancements in existing and new 3GPP technologies. His focus is on LTE-Advanced Pro and the 5G NR technology. Meik joined Rohde & Schwarz in August 2007 after working 11 years at Siemens and NSN. He holds a Dipl.-Ing. degree of Electrical Engineering with focus on radio frequency technology from the University of Hannover, Germany.
Andreas Roessler is Technology Manager at Rohde & Schwarz focused on LTE-Advanced Pro and 5G. Responsible for the strategic marketing and product portfolio development for LTE/LTE-Advanced Pro and 5G, Andreas follows industry activities and the standardization process in 3GPP very closely, particularly on core specifications as well as protocol conformance, RRM and conformance specifications for RF component, device and base stations testing. Andreas has more than 13 years of experience in the wireless communications industry. He graduated from Otto-von-Guericke University in Magdeburg, Germany, and holds a master’s degree in communications engineering.
