Passive Plus Inc. (PPI) is now offering its 0402BB104 Broadband Capacitors in both 25 and 50 V (WVDC) versions. While the 25 V version typically operates to 35 GHz with an insertion loss < 1.2 dB, the 50 V version’s operating frequency range has been extended to 50 GHz, with a typical maximum insertion loss < 1.2 dB.
In another industry first, Passive Plus Inc. now performs 100 percent partial discharge testing on all leaded capacitors. This added capability continues to enhance the reliability of Passive Plus capacitors for demanding high voltage applications.

Passive Plus Inc. has the 01005BB104 broadband 100 nF multilayer ceramic capacitors. The 01005BB104 – the industry’s smallest 100 nF broadband part characterized for RF performance -- has a case measuring (mils) 16 x 8 x 8, and offers resonant-free RF coupling/DC blocking from 16 KHz (lower 3-dB frequency) to beyond 65 GHz with < 1 dB insertion loss and < -15 dB return loss on suitable substrates. 
PPI is offering traditional NP0, Hi-Q 0505 (0.055” x 0.055”) and 1111 (0.110” x 0.110”) series capacitors with increased temperature and life test performance. They have been qualified to 200°C, under 2x WVCD, for 2000 hours. These parts exhibit low ESR/ESL, low noise, high power, high self-resonance, as well as ultra-stable performance over temperature. Typical applications are wireless broadcasting equipment, mobile base stations, GPS and more.

Passive Plus Inc. is now offering the 1313C (1.30” x 1.30”) series capacitor. The main features of the series are its High Q above 10,000, low ESR, high operating voltage, high operating current, and high reliability. All parts are non-magnetic, NPO, conforming to MIL-PRF-55681, and come in multiple lead configurations and are tested to PPI’s standard specifications plus 100 hour burn-in, 100% sonoscan, and 100% partial discharge testing.

The CAP-PPI-0201BB-001 is a substrate scalable Global Model™ for the Passive Plus P/N 0201BB surface mount chip capacitor family. They are for use with microstrip applications and account for substrate (or printed circuit board) related parasitic effects up to 65 GHz. The applications require small, SMT devices with low insertion losses and reflections across RF frequencies extending from the tens of KHz to the tens of GHz, and temperatures typically ranging from -55 to +125 0C. 
Passive Plus Inc. (PPI) now offers a line of Traditional RF Bypass Capacitors. These dielectric capacitors can be mounted either horizontally or vertically and are available in 3 case sizes for RF/Microwave applications. 0505X series size is .055" x .055" with value range: 470pF to .01µF, 1111X series size .110" x .110" has value range: 4700pF to .1µFF, and the 2225X series .220" x .250" with value range: 0.010µF to 1.0µF.
Passive Plus Inc. (PPI) now provides its customers with the option of specifying capacitor assemblies with SAC 305 solder, which is 100% lead free. Previous to this breakthrough, engineers were limited to specifying capacitor assemblies that typically utilized a high lead based solder to attach the leads to the capacitors. PPI has qualified this lead free solder option to enable engineers to design 100% RoHS compliant capacitor assemblies.

Passive Plus is offering low ESR microwave capacitors in 0201N case size. The 0201N series included value range 0.1pF to 100pF, size .020" x .010", wvdc 25 V, and TC: 0 +/- 30 PPM/°C (-55°C - +125°C) - 0 +/- 60 PPM/°C (125°C - +175°C). Parts are available in tape and reel sizes of 500 pcs or 15,000 pcs. Engineering design kits are also available. The 0201N data sheet, S-Parameter and modeling data are available.

This conformal coating serves to protect the capacitor surface from contaminants, thereby minimizing the chances of an arc-over. As an option, if customer requires, PPI can also supply leaded capacitors without the conformal coating.
In another industry first, Passive Plus Inc. now performs 100% partial discharge testing on all leaded capacitors. This added capability continues to enhance the reliability of Passive Plus capacitors for demanding high voltage applications. Partial discharge testing detects faint electrical discharges in multilayer ceramic capacitors under high voltage conditions. Passive Plus discharge testing exceeds the requirements of MIL-PRF-49467.

Typically, one or more hairline cracks develop in the ceramic, defects that may even have an imperceptible effect on initial performance, but that manifest with time, circuit board flexure, or temperature excursions. Herein are a few tips, suggestions, and caveats to be aware of in performing a reliable hand soldering attachment.
