With today’s launch of the fourth GPS IIF satellite, Boeing and the U.S. Air Force continue modernizing the Global Positioning System that millions of people worldwide rely on as a navigation and timing resource.
Boeing will build four more 702MP satellites for Intelsat S.A., furthering its role as the initial manufacturer of Intelsat’s new high-performance satellite fleet, Intelsat EpicNG. Boeing has received a $338.7 million contract modification from the U.S. Air Force to produce and launch a tenth Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) satellite. The authorization includes production, launch site activities, initial orbital operations and checkout.
Boeing shipped the third of 12 GPS IIF satellites for the U.S. Air Force from the company's Satellite Development Center in El Segundo to Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, FL, aboard a Boeing-built C-17 Globemaster III airlifter.
