TI announced two new software packages for its KeyStone-based multicore system-on-chips (SoCs): a new production ready small cell Physical (PHY) software package and a transport software package for wireless and other network-oriented applications.

Of all the available backhaul choices for LTE macrocells and small cells, by 2018, sub 6GHz OFDM NLOS technology will become the most popular for “last mile” backhaul. Fiber-based backhaul will be the second most popular choice, where it is available, followed by millimeter wave and the traditional LOS microwave links.

Ericsson has now validated that MINI-LINK products in traditional frequency bands can operate in non-line-of-sight (NLOS) conditions with high performance.

Rohde & Schwarz performs together with ASTRI a live test on a 2x2 MIMO base station in the uplink and downlink at the Mobile World Congress 2013. Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) provides an LTE-Advanced small cell as the device under test. What makes this demonstration special is that the 2x2 MIMO signal is generated and analyzed using only a single measuring instrument each.

With a form factor of only 7.5 in square including antenna, the sub-6 GHz point-to-point microwave radio supports both licensed and unlicensed spectrum and is ideally suited for non-line-of-sight (NLOS) scenarios where obstructions are found between link endpoints.
