With today’s launch of the sixth Wideband Global SATCOM satellite, Boeing and the U.S. Air Force continue to expand the advanced WGS communications network that serves the U.S. Department of Defense and its international partners, including the Australian Defence Force.

TriQuint Semiconductor Inc., a leading RF solutions supplier and technology innovator, announced that it has acquired CAP Wireless (Newbury Park, CA) and its patented Spatium™ RF power combining technology that replaces traveling wave tube amplifiers (TWTAs) in communications and defense systems. TriQuint estimates that the TWTA market opportunity will be about $600 million by 2015.

RFMW Ltd. announces design and sales support fora 6 GHz single-pole, triple throw (SP3T) switch from TriQuint Semiconductor. The TQP4M0011 is controlled using positive DC voltages from 1.8 to 5 volts.

Ultra low power (ULP) RF specialist Nordic Semiconductor ASA announces that a leading British audio product manufacturer, Ruark Audio, has specified a pair of Nordic nRF24LE1 2.4GHz System-on-Chip (SoC) transceivers for the RF remote control in its forthcoming retro-styled R7 music center, due for launch this fall.

AWR announces the dates and venues for its AWR Design Forum 2013 (ADF2013) events in China and Taiwan that take place in early September. The AWR Design Forum is an open event at which designers of microwave and RF circuits and systems can network, share useful information, and collaborate on industry issues and trends. 

ABI Research estimates that the installed base of Bluetooth-enabled devices alone reached 3.5 billion in 2012 and is forecast to grow to almost 10 billion by 2018—this doesn’t take into account many other technologies such as Wi-Fi, ZigBee, and cellular.

The LPKF Group announced that based on preliminary figures it achieved year-on-year revenue growth of 39% to EUR 70 million in the first half of 2013. Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) after six months are expected to come in at EUR 15 million, which would represent an EBIT margin of 22%.
