Freescale Semiconductor revealed its first RF power amplifier product built using gallium nitride (GaN) technology. The company’s RF power GaN products will initially target the cellular infrastructure market, with potential future applications including avionics, radar, ISM and software-defined radio.

To meet the needs of today’s radio and RF communication equipment designers, Analog Devices Inc. (ADI) introduced the ADL5324 half-Watt RF driver amplifier. When compared to other RF driver amplifiers, the ADL5324 offers superior power efficiency and temperature tolerance.

ASC Signal released new redundancy technology and product options designed to provide simplified, seamless switching of virtually any active radio frequency component on the company’s fixed and transportable Earth station antennas. Peregrine Semiconductor Corp. (Peregrine), a leading provider of high-performance radio-frequency (RF) integrated circuits (ICs) announced that the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has launched an investigation into whether RF Micro Devices Inc. (RFMD) products infringe certain Peregrine patents relating to RF ICs and switch technology. The action and investigation further include Motorola Mobility Inc. and HTC Corp. (HTC), whose products incorporate the alleged infringing RF ICs.

Cadence Design Systems, Inc. and Samsung Electronics have collaborated to deliver a 20 nanometer design methodology that incorporates double patterning technology for joint customer deployment and internal test chips. The collaboration brings new process advances for mobile consumer electronics, enabling design at 20 nm and future process nodes.
