TriQuint Semiconductor Inc. announced that it has been selected by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to lead a $12.3 million development program focused on ultra-fast gallium nitride (GaN) switch technology for the Microscale Power Conversion (MPC) program. TriQuint’s revolutionary new GaN modulator has the potential to enable highly-efficient RF transmitters substantially smaller than current solutions.

Laser Services Inc. has announced the addition of a new microscope-aligned CO₂ laser to bring greater capacity to their substrate and PCB cutting department. This brings the total of microscope-aligned CO₂ lasers to four in daily operation, adding 33 percent capacity to their fine alignment capability. This increased capacity allows for quicker order turns and shorter lead times.

Agilent Technologies Inc. and Centellax announced they have signed a definitive agreement for Agilent to acquire the assets of Centellax’s test and measurement business. Centellax, a privately held company, designs and manufactures key technology and products such as bit-error ratio testers and signal generators used for testing high-speed digital communication systems and components.

A new forecast published today indicates that multi-mode, multi-band handsets and MIMO will drive staggering growth in the number of RF components shipped for mobile devices. By 2017, annual sales of 3 billion mobile devices will drive almost 20 billion different bands and operating modes.

Richardson RFPD Inc. announces it has completed a distribution agreement with PriaTherm, a European-based provider of reliable and innovative solutions in the thermal management industry. With this agreement, Priatherm provides Richardson RFPD with a source to assist its European customers with fabricated heat sinks for high power RF, as well as energy and power management, applications.
