Researchers from Rice University unveiled a new multi-antenna technology that could help wireless providers keep pace with the voracious demands of data-hungry smartphones and tablets. The technology aims to dramatically increase network capacity by allowing cell towers to simultaneously beam signals to more than a dozen customers on the same frequency.

Laser Services will use the grant for training programs for 32 employees and expects to create four new jobs as a result of this project. 

Anritsu Co. announces that its full portfolio of LTE device test solutions includes Band 14 capability to support the public safety community. This portfolio includes three LTE-capable test platforms, as well as two LTE-focused test systems. Applications for these solutions cover the complete LTE device development chain from functional test to PTCRB certification and aftermarket repair, and options for advanced functionality, such as Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and LTE Advanced/Carrier Aggregation, are available.

SenarioTek announced the FlexMatrix reconfigurable RF switch matrix series, which delivers off-the-shelf performance up to 40 GHz.  With FlexMatrix, test engineers can easily adjust, modify or expand their RF switching capability for applications such as radar, military communications and consumer wireless.

STMicroelectronics has launched the 2012 iNEMO Design Contest. The contest invites final-year engineering students from the National University of Singapore and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to develop innovative applications using ST’s iNEMO^® smart multi-sensor technology.

ip.access has shipped an LTE-only version of its new E-100 dual mode access point to five customers for laboratory and field trials. This is an important staging point in the process of moving towards full commercial deployments and represents the company’s first LTE product shipments.

Saab has signed a MoU regarding a strategic investment in the Indian company Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering Co. Ltd. In conjunction the companies have signed a Technical Partnership Agreement.
