RFMD Expands Front-end Modules for ZigBee-based Smart Energy and ISM Applications

RF Micro Devices Inc. (RFMD) announced the availability of the RF6515 front-end module (FEM). RFMD's feature-rich RF6515 FEM improves the performance of 2.4 to 2.5 GHz ISM band wireless applications requiring longer-range operation at high efficiency, including WLAN, Zigbee®, Smart Energy/Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Home Area Networks (HAN).

RFMD's highly integrated RF6515 FEM integrates a 20 dBm PA, harmonic transmit filtering and a double-pole, double-throw (DPDT) switch. The RF6515 also features an integrated balun, which provides a balanced 50 ohm match for the Rx and Tx signal paths. The RF6515 is packaged in a 3.5 x 3.5 x 0.5 mm package, which is industry-leading and five times smaller than competitive offerings, significantly minimizing customer product footprints and greatly reducing assembly costs and external component counts.

RFMD's RF6515 was designed in collaboration with Ember. Used together, RFMD's RF6515 and Ember's EM250 deliver industry-leading performance while shortening customer design time and accelerating product time-to-market.
