ADI Introduces High-performance Radio Frequency Mixers

May 6, 2010

Analog Devices Inc. (ADI), a leader in semiconductors for signal processing applications, announced the introduction of two new high-performance RF passive mixers for a variety of wireless applications, such as cellular base station receivers, transmit observation receivers and radio link downconverters. Designing for these applications requires high linearity and low noise and has always been a challenge as existing mixer solutions often require external components, such as baluns and matching components that add complexity to the design. ADI’s new single-channel ADL5353 and dual-channel ADL5354 integrated passive mixers simplify designs, offer best-in-class performance, and complement ADI’s broad mixer portfolio by extending the frequency coverage of ADI’s mixer products.

Operating in the 2300 to 2900 MHz frequency range, the single-channel ADL5353 mixer and the dual-channel ADL5354 mixer offer the highest level of integration including an RF balun, LO switch for dual LO frequency applications, LO driver and an integrated IF amplifier. The balun integration enables the RF signal to be driven single-ended. The integrated IF amplifier provides the necessary gain, thereby eliminating the need for an external gain stage. Both the ADL5353 and ADL5354 provide best-in-class IP3 and noise figure performance resulting in excellent spurious free dynamic range. These mixers also offer excellent noise figure under blocker signal performance. High spurious-free dynamic range and low noise figure under blocker performance enable the mixer to be used in applications where the receiver is operating in the presence of large interfering signals. The 5 V (nominal) ADL5353 and ADL5354 can also be operated on a 3.3 V supply voltage for power-conscious applications.
