VI Technology Develops Test Systems for Second-generation of Ford SYNC

February 9, 2010

VI Technology MMTS™ for production testing of new and existing components was used in the development of second-generation of Ford's SYNC system. VI Technology MMTS is an automated test system designed to improve productivity for design and test engineers needing analog & digital measurements for audio/video devices.

Ford has continued to innovate and add features to SYNC, including adding traffic, directions and information capabilities starting with the 2010 model year.

VI Technology, an Aeroflex company, worked closely with the Ford’s design team to customize MMTS tests tailored specifically for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB, and audio and video features found in SYNC. A key feature of the MMTS is its scalable architecture, which enabled users to easily create or add existing tests. These customized tests and the ability of MMTS™ to test up to eight devices simultaneously were essential to Ford’s aggressive 2010 plans.

“The Ford SYNC project is a perfect example of how to leverage the MMTS,” said Alex Backus, Vice President of Strategic Development at Aeroflex. “Ford required fast and accurate automated measurements for a variety of multimedia technologies in a high volume production environment. The MMTS has been recognized as the best in the industry for consistently addressing these types of challenges.”

In 2009, the MMTS was selected as the winner of the Test and Measurement World’s prestigious Best in Test Award for the Audio/Video and Multimedia Category. The MMTS Moving Video Test System is a finalist in the same category for 2010.
