Coming in March and April 2010

Here's a pre-view of the editorial planned for the ever popular Test & Measurement issue and Cable & Connector supplement coming in March as well as a look ahead at the Annual MTT-S IMS show issue coming in April.

February 1, 2010

This year, Microwave Journal’s editorial focus will be on the microwave supply chain. Our reporting will consider trends in part specification, marketing and procurement as well as the relationship between suppliers and end-users, as this topic relates to the monthly theme.

Availability of nonlinear device models has always been a bit of a bottleneck for the microwave supply chain. Who is responsible for providing this critical design information? Is it the device manufacturer, software vendor or the end-user? In March’s Test and Measurement issue, we examine trends in nonlinear device characterization affecting all active microwave devices, from test to modeling to simulation. Our investigation will present advances from test solution providers such as Agilent, Rohde & Schwarz, Tektronix and Anritsu; load-pull solutions from Maury Microwave and Focus Microwave as well as measurement systems from start-ups Mesuro, NMDG and HFE.

The future of component modeling, IP protection and transfer of design data will also be discussed in this cover story. This technology is being developed at a rapid rate and its adoption by the entire industry will have a significant on many vendors and designers. MMIC/RFIC, amplifier and power device manufacturers and their customers will have an interest in this special industry report from Microwave Journal editor, David Vye.

The March Cables/Connectors Supplement compliments our Test & Measurement issue. These two topics have great synergy, as precision cables and connectors play a critical role in measurement accuracy and repeatability. The Cables/Connectors Supplement keeps test engineers informed about the latest and the greatest. The subject also plays very well to system integrators working in the defense and telecommunication markets.

Speaking of test solutions, the Journal’s web site posts a monthly “TestBench” article on new test equipment, techniques or related content. This feature appears on our home page and is promoted in the magazine’s online table of contents. If your company has a story regarding RF/microwave Test & Measurement, please contact editor David Vye (Dvye@mwjournal.com) for online publication opportunities.

Bonus distribution for the March issue and the Cables/Connectors Supplement includes CTIA Wireless in Las Vegas, NV (March 23-25), and the 2010 WAMICON in Melbourne, FL (April 12-13). The Supplement will also be distributed at IMS 2010 in Anaheim, CA (May 23-28).

Speaking of CTIA Wireless, Microwave Journal will be managing the RF/Microwave Zone pavilion at CTIA Wireless for a second year. If your company sells to this market, but feel the size of this show is overwhelming or too costly, consider exhibiting in the RF Zone. This is a turn-key, low cost solution. Exhibit with other microwave people at the RF Zone and get the attention of new prospects. Contact your MWJ ad rep for details.

Don't forget - This year's IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium in Anaheim will be early and so will our special show issue. The conference/exhibition is in May, which means the show issue will be distributed in mid-April. Your marketing efforts before the show will have a great impact on your booth traffic and ultimate success. Make sure you have a strong presence in the magazine more people rely on for complete show coverage and the only trade journal that will be distributed in the delegate bags. In this month’s waveguide newsletter, Carl Sheffres discusses our special plans to promote advertisers appearing in our annual show issue. Here’s a glimpse at what the editorial for the month will look like.

Legendary microwave manufacturer representative Chuck Swift will co-author our cover story on the history of microwaves (and companies) in California. Chuck will focus on Southern California. His co-author (to be named) will present a companion piece on the people, companies and events that defined the microwave business in northern California. This article should bring back a lot of memories and reader interest.

Editors David Vye and Pat Hindle will author a special exhibition preview that takes a look at technology trends and product releases of this past year and consider what the industry might expect to see for killer products at IMS. We will also be updating how the Journal provides travel tips this year, leveraging social media and the internet to help guide attendees toward the best dining, where to save money and real-time updates on where the “after show“ party is happening.

Coordinating your marketing message with related editorial increases your visibility at the right time, for the right audience. To help plan the timing of your marketing programs, here’s a glimpse at the next few months in Microwave Journal.
