Symmetricom Announces End-to-end Synchronization Management Platform

September 22, 2009

Symmetricom® Inc., a leader in precise time and frequency technologies that accelerate the deployment and enable the management of next generation networks, announced TimePictra™ 4.0, the industry’s first comprehensive IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) end-to-end synchronization management platform. Delivering breakthrough network visibility and management of IEEE 1588 PTP servers and clients, TimePictra allows carriers to monitor their entire IEEE 1588 sync network consisting of multiple vendors’ clients, all from a centralized location.

“Network management is essential for ensuring control and visibility of the entire network,” said Michael Howard, Principal Analyst and Co-founder at Infonetics Research. “As carriers roll out innovative broadband services, they need a variety of tools to support the new Ethernet network. Symmetricom’s management and monitoring platform delivers an important element for deploying IEEE 1588 PTP synchronization technology.”

A web-enabled synchronization management platform, TimePictra 4.0 has a scalable, modular, multi-vendor architecture that evolves with the network, integrating with higher level systems and rapidly identifying problems in a Network Operation Center (NOC) environment. By continuously monitoring the health of the timing network, service providers can be alerted of performance degradation, thereby assuring quality of service.

“As the only provider of a complete end-to-end PTP solution with servers, clients, global services and now full network management, Symmetricom has long been leading the industry with IEEE 1588 PTP synchronization technology,” said Barry Dropping, Senior Director, product line management at Symmetricom. “This management solution rounds out Symmetricom’s IEEE 1588 portfolio, enabling operators to confidently transition advanced networks to Ethernet backhaul with full end-to-end synchronization performance visibility.”
