Hittite Introduces Four Digital Variable Gain Amplifiers

June 15, 2009

Hittite Microwave Corp., a supplier of complete MMIC-based solutions for communication and military markets, has introduced four new Digital Variable Gain Amplifiers which are ideal for automotive, broadband, cellular/3G, WiMAX/4G, test & measurement equipment and military applications between 70 MHz and 4 GHz.

The HMC707LP5E and HMC708LP5E are digitally controlled 6-bit variable gain amplifiers that operate from 700 to 1200 MHz, and 1700 to 2200 MHz, respectively. These highly linear DVGAs deliver a gain control range of -2.5 to +29 dB with 0.5 dB resolution, with noise figure as low as 0.8 dB and output IP3 as high as +38.5 dBm.

The HMC707LP5E and HMC708LP5E DVGAs feature a user selectable power up state, as well as a serial, parallel or latched parallel control interface. Both the HMC707LP5E and HMC708LP5E are housed in RoHS compliant 5x5 mm QFN leadless packages, and are CMOS/TTL compatible.

The HMC742LP5E is a digitally controlled 6-bit variable gain amplifier that operates from 70 MHz to 4 GHz, and can be programmed to provide from -19.5 to +12 dB of gain, with 0.5 dB resolution. The HMC742LP5E delivers noise figure of 4 dB in its maximum gain state, with output IP3 of up to +40 dBm in any state. The HMC742LP5E also features a user selectable power up state, as well as a serial, parallel or latched parallel control interface. This wideband digital VGA incorporates off-chip AC ground capacitors for near DC operation, making it suitable for a wide variety of RF and IF applications. The HMC742LP5E is housed in a RoHS compliant 5x5 mm QFN leadless package, and is CMOS/ TTL compatible.

The HMC743LP6CE is a digitally controlled 12-bit variable gain amplifier that operates from 70 MHz to 4 GHz, and can be programmed to provide an industry leading 63 dB of gain control range, with 0.5 dB resolution. The HMC743LP6CE delivers noise figure of 6 dB in its maximum gain state, with output IP3 of up to +33 dBm. This serially controlled digital VGA incorporates off chip AC ground capacitors for near DC operation, making it suitable for a wide variety of RF and IF applications. The HMC743LP6CE is housed in a RoHS compliant 6x6 mm QFN leadless package, and provides the user with a highly integrated solution.

Samples and evaluation PC boards for all SMT packaged products are available from stock and can be ordered via the company’s e-commerce site or via direct purchase order. Released data sheets are available on-line at www.hittite.com.
