Last Call to ARMMS Conference

November 10, 2008

Time is running out for those wanting to attend the forthcoming ARMMS Conference to be held on the 24 and 25 November at the Rockingham Forest Hotel, Corby. UK. A wide range of RF and microwave technologies will be addressed. Papers include one on the production testing of high volume RF devices such as mobile phones by Tim Masson of Agilent, through to the humanitarian benefits of satellite imaging from Keith Clarke of SSTL. In total, around 14 papers will be presented over two days.

Novel survey work of the 2.4 GHz band is currently being performed by MASS Consultants on behalf of Ofcom. Adrian Wagstaff will explain how small handheld devices are being used to gather statistics on the utilization of the 2.4 GHz spectrum, and present some preliminary results. This technique may be deployed in dense urban environments and has uncovered interesting features of spectrum usage.

A new theoretical method for the analysis of the Doherty power amplifier will be presented. The Doherty PA promises to achieve 300 W PEP with good linearity and 50 percent efficiency, but the underlying modeling can be imprecise. Steve Cripps of Hywave will set out an improved modeling methodology, which offers robust design strategies to achieve the best from the Doherty PA.

The conference program is arranged to allow the most effective interaction between speakers and delegates with breaks every three papers. A technical exhibition provides the opportunity to get hands on experience during these breaks and the high spot of the event is the ARMMS dinner on the Monday evening, which provides a convivial and enjoyable networking occasion.
