Saab and Indian TCS in Collaboration

September 22, 2008

Saab and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (TCS) have signed a Letter of Intent to create an aviation technology design and development center in India. Together the two companies intend to establish a common development center that both parties can benefit from. The collaboration is seen as the start of a long relationship and increases both companies’ opportunities to do business within the aviation and defense sectors.

India is a key market for Saab, as one of the world’s fastest growing defense markets and the business opportunities in the country span the entire Saab product range. In addition to aviation and aviation technology it also includes electronic warfare, command and control, civil security, etc.

The Aeronautical Design and Development Center, ADDC, will be aimed at the global aviation market. Within Saab, Combitech will be responsible for establishing the center, which will create design and development opportunities in India for both civil and military applications. Saab will transfer technology and expertise within aviation technology. The markets for aero structures, aero systems, avionics and aftermarket support are of special interest to the work in the center.

“This co-operation is not limited to any specific product but is aimed towards building a joint capability to leverage collective strengths across the globe,” said Saab CEO Åke Svensson. S. Ramadorai, CEO and MD of TCS, added, “This partnership has a strong blend of Saab’s technology solutions and TCS global engineering model to address the growing opportunities in the aerospace and defense sector.”
