e2v and Nuctech Create Right Image in China

May 23, 2008

e2v, the specialist developer and manufacturer of high technology components and sub-systems, and Nuctech Co. Ltd. of Beijing, Peoples Republic of China, have signed a strategic multi-year deal, worth an estimated £2 M, under which e2v will supply Nuctech with electronic tubes used in their cargo screening systems.

Nuctech’s THSCAN™ equipment provides for rapid and effective inspection of large cargo containers, improving security at customs centers, and so preventing illegal smuggling of goods or people. It is sold to customs authorities throughout the world. e2v’s electronic tubes form a key enabling technology within the equipment, generating and delivering the microwave power required to produce the X-rays used in the imaging system.

Nuctech Co. Ltd. originated as a technology spin-out from Tsinghua University, China, and after 10 years of rapid development, it has developed a global position, specializing in the research and development of security inspection technology, supporting system design, manufacture and engineering.

Keith Attwood, CEO of e2v, said, “This order marks a new milestone in the close working relationship between e2v and Nuctech. Nuctech’s success to date is a great example of what can be achieved through the combination of our respective world leading technologies, in a world class product.”
