TriQuint’s WJ Acquisition Strengthens Infrastructure Portfolio

March 26, 2008

Strategy Analytics' analysis of the recent deal announced by TriQuint to acquire WJ Communications concludes that TriQuint can bring WJ into its fold with little or no negative impact on profits in 2008, resulting in positive product line synergies, growth and profits longer-term.

Acquiring WJ will allow TriQuint to expand its standard products catalog and extend the power output of its high voltage GaAs HBT transistor portfolio. Moreover, the acquisition will increase TriQuint's penetration at existing clients while furthering its efforts to bring cost-effective multi-chip module solutions to the infrastructure market.

"TriQuint has made a smart move with the acquisition of WJ, and should reap benefits quickly," observes Asif Anwar, GaAs service director. "Strategy Analytics believes the acquisition will build on the successful strategy that TriQuint has developed over the past several years, which has helped the company to target a wider range of markets."

Highlights of the acquisition include:

Combining WJ design expertise with TriQuint's advanced technologies;
Expansion of TriQuint's presence in the communications infrastructure market;
Providing TriQuint with a Silicon Valley-based design center;
Acceleration of the evolution to multi-function modules for infrastructure applications;
Bringing 172 employees into the TriQuint fold.
