SELEX S&AS Wins First Order for PicoSAR

February 11, 2008

SELEX Sensors and Airborne Systems (SELEX S&AS) has received an important order from a North European country for the supply of its new PicoSAR lightweight airborne ground surveillance radar. The order is of particular importance as it is the first for PicoSAR, with discussions also underway with various potential customers around the world for further orders.

It is anticipated that the radar will be a great success and will become a key part of the SELEX S&AS Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar family. PicoSAR has been specifically developed to be a lightweight, compact AESA radar for small airborne platforms, such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and helicopters. It is a Synthetic Aperture Radar that provides high resolution stand-off ground mapping and ground moving target indication in all weather conditions.

Commenting on this landmark order, Bob Mason, executive vice president, Radar and Advanced Targeting, said, "This important contract demonstrates that our product development is very much on track and meets evolving market needs. We are therefore very confident that this is the first of many PicoSAR orders. PicoSAR is our latest lightweight radar offering and joins an established and successful portfolio of AESA radar products that includes the Seaspray 7000E and 7500E surveillance and Vixen 500E fire control radar. We very much look forward to working with this customer and are fully committed to justifying their faith in us and our PicoSAR radar.”
