Willkommen in München, for the 10th European Microwave Week

October 8, 2007

After all of the preparation, build-up and expectation, the 10th European Microwave Week (EuMW) has finally begun at the International Congress Centre Munich (ICM). A day after the city’s world famous Oktoberfest beer festival ended the RF and microwave community has gathered at the ICM to celebrate both EuMW’s first decade and the industry’s endeavours and achievements.

For those not nursing Oktoberfest hangovers the Week started at 8.30 as the first sessions of both the European Microwave Integrated Circuits Conference (EuMIC) and the European Conference on Wireless Technology (ECWT) got European Microwave Week underway. Attendance has been very good with initial sessions covering topics such as integrated power amplifiers, millimetre-wave ICs, silicon based high frequency devices, nitride devices for high power and efficiency, novel digital centric radio architectures, wireless UWB communications, compact multifunctional microwave antennas and MIMO techniques for wireless radio communications.

Also proving popular, and complementing both conferences, are allied workshops and short courses, some of which are joint EuMIC/ECWT sessions while others are joint with the other two EuMW conferences — the European Microwave Conference (EuMC) and the European Radar Conference (EuRAD).

EuRAD starts in earnest on Thursday (11 October) while EuMC begins its three day stint tomorrow (Tuesday October 9). So too does the European Microwave Exhibition where work is well underway putting the finishing touches to the stands taking up over 7,000 m2 of gross space and housing over 300 exhibiting companies. The stands look impressive and colourful. Advance news from some of those exhibiting companies follows; with much more to come during the rest of the week as this Online Show Daily brings you the latest news direct from the show floor.
