Comtech Telecommunications Awarded $2.5 M Order

June 14, 2007

Comtech Telecommunications Corp. announced that its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., was awarded a $2.5 M equipment order to support a satellite-based cellular backhaul network in Asia.

A leading mobile operator in the region will utilize the equipment to support a telecommunication expansion program.

The order includes an assortment of Comtech EF Data's satellite communications products, including CDM-Qx Satellite Modems with DoubleTalkā„¢ Carrier-in-CarrierĀ®, redundancy switches, high power outdoor amplifiers and transceivers, and the new CX-U1000 series cellular backhaul platform from its subsidiary, Memotec.

The CDM-Qx and CDM-QxL with DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier are designed with the needs of satellite operators, communication service providers and enterprise users in mind, and offer exceptional flexibility, redundancy, integration and performance. CDM-Qx and CDM-QxL are the first satellite modems to offer the award-winning DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier capability.

Utilizing the patented "Adaptive Cancellation" by Applied Signal Technology, DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier allows the transmit and receive carriers of a full-duplex satellite link to be transmitted in the same transponder space. This equates to unprecedented bandwidth efficiencies, which are enabling communication services providers and enterprise users to fully optimize their space segment.

The Memotec CX-U1000 is the next generation mobile voice and data compression product. The CX-U1000 combines GSM/CDMA mobile network access optimization and DCME voice compression features together into a single, compact, carrier-grade unit. Featuring hot-standby redundancy with zero service down time, sophisticated monitoring functions and the highest traffic compression ratio in the industry, the CX-U1000 delivers the level of carrier-grade features mobile operators require.

"By utilizing the bandwidth efficiencies offered with the combined Comtech EF Data and Memotec cellular backhaul solution, this service provider can cost-effectively implement its expansion plans," said Fred Kornberg, president and chief executive officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp.
